Zakat stands as the
Third Pillar of Islam—a sacred obligation, not a choice, for every eligible Muslim. It requires giving 2.5% of one’s accumulated wealth each year to uplift the vulnerable.
More than charity, Zakat purifies possessions and restores balance by ensuring wealth reaches those denied life’s essentials. It is both a spiritual act of worship and a social justice mandate, uniting communities through divine compassion.
The current Nisab thresholds for Zakat eligibility are calculated based on live market rates for gold and silver:
Zakat becomes obligatory when two key conditions are fulfilled:
Your wealth must meet or exceed the minimum value (Nisab) set by gold/silver standards.
A full Islamic year (354 days) must pass while your wealth remains above the Nisab threshold.
Minimum Threshold (Nisab): £7,039.21
(If your wealth meets or exceeds this amount for a full Islamic year, Zakat becomes due)
✍️ How to Calculate:
Add up all your eligible wealth (savings, investments, gold, etc.)
Subtract any immediate debts
Pay 2.5% of the remaining amount
💡 Example:
• If you have £10,000 in savings for a full year:
£10,000 × 2.5% = £250 Zakat due
• If you have £5,000:
£5,000 × 2.5% = £125 Zakat due
